Wendy Williams' $25,000-a-month assisted living facility, Coterie, has been described as a 'dump' by the former talk show host herself. In a recent phone interview, Williams expressed her dissatisfaction with her living situation, asking a reporter who toured the facility, 'Did you see the people? The elderly people? Why do I want to look at that? This is a f---d-up situation. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked that I be moved from this floor.'
Despite the negative portrayal, Coterie boasts luxurious amenities, including a lobby adorned with fresh lilies and marble floors, a tiered crystal waterfall chandelier, and a 24/7 nursing staff. The facility also offers a private movie theater, a snack bar, a spa, and a hair salon for residents who can participate. However, Williams' friend and owner of the upscale Italian eatery Tucci in New York, Max Tucci, shared that Williams describes the establishment to him as a 'dump.'
Williams' living situation has been under scrutiny since 2022 when she was placed under a court-appointed guardianship. In February 2024, she was diagnosed with progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). However, Williams has continued to deny that she has dementia. Her son, who is trying to stay clear of any drama involving his mother, expressed his desire for her to get out of the assisted living facility, stating, 'I just want her to get out of this. Because it's not right.'
The Cut, the outlet that conducted the interview, noted that lawyers were in court this year concerned about Williams's finances. In 2024, Morrissey sold Williams's 2,400-square-foot apartment, reportedly at a loss. They also mentioned that at some point, Morrissey rehomed her two cats. The outlet also described the memory care unit in a bleak manner, stating that the floor smelled like Febreze and lacked locks on the apartment doors and stoves or refrigerators for residents' safety.
