Florida State Basketball Lands Star Forward Lajae Jones | New Era Under Coach Luke Loucks (2025)

A Rising Star Sets His Sights on Florida State's Basketball Glory

The basketball journey of Lajae Jones is about to reach new heights, and he's determined to bring FSU its long-awaited national championship.

Lajae Jones, a name that has echoed through basketball courts across the nation, is now ready to make his mark at Florida State University (FSU). With a basketball in his hands almost since birth, Jones has an impressive resume that includes a successful high school career, a junior college championship, and a taste of the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Tournament.

But here's where it gets controversial... Jones isn't satisfied with just making it to the quarterfinals. He's hungry for the ultimate prize, and he believes FSU is the place to achieve it.

Jones' basketball journey began at Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, where he averaged an impressive 20.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game as a senior. He was the District Player of the Year and the first player from Fletcher to sign with a Division I team in over two decades.

His collegiate career started at Tarleton State University, but limited playing time led him to seek a change. Jones then transferred to Barton Community College, where he truly shone. He led the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, and his 54% shooting percentage was a key factor in their successful season.

The team's National Junior College Athletic Association D1 championship victory, with Jones as the tournament MVP, was a highlight of his career. But Jones wasn't done yet. He transferred again, this time to St. Bonaventure University, where he helped the Bonnies reach the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinals.

And this is the part most people miss... Jones isn't content with just making it to the quarterfinals. He wants more, and he's found a new home at FSU, where he believes he can truly showcase his talents.

"I think Coach Loucks will bring out the best in me by trusting me to showcase my skills and help the team win," Jones said. With his impressive 6-foot-7 stature and a reported 6-foot-10 wingspan, Jones is a force to be reckoned with on the court.

Now, Jones is practicing with his new FSU teammates, and the upcoming season is full of anticipation. Fans can expect high-energy, gritty play from Jones, who is determined to bring success back to FSU basketball.

"Our goal is to win every game we play," Jones said. "We want the regular season championship, the ACC Championship, and ultimately, the national championship. Every game matters, regardless of the opponent."

With the season just around the corner, Jones and the Seminoles will open with two home games at the Donald L. Tucker Center, facing Alcorn State University and Alabama State University. Then, they'll hit the road to face their archrivals, the defending national champion University of Florida Gators.

Will Jones and FSU basketball achieve their lofty goals? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: Lajae Jones is a player to watch, and his impact on the court could be a game-changer for FSU.
